Decimals in quantities

Why hourly or shift quantities in the Shift View can show decimals even when products are counted in whole numbers.

Why are quantities sometimes showing decimals when the counting is done in whole numbers (integers)?

If the signals are all in integer format (whole numbers) – for example 1 signal/circle in Shift View = 1 pcs of a product – it can still happen that Shift View shows hourly or shift quantity as a decimal number. How does that happen?

It happens when a signal is:

  • started in the end of one hour and ended in the beginning of another

Screenshot: started in the end of one hour and ended in the beginning of another

or

  • started in one shift and ended in the next one

Screenshot: started in one shift and ended in the next one

Example 1:

Product A is counted in pieces, 1 signal/circle = 1 pc.

The cycle time of the production is 1 pc/min.

Production of this signal starts at 08:59:30 and ends one minute later, 09:00:30. A part of the signal, meaning a part of the one piece – let's say half – was produced in the end of the hour that starts at 8:00:00 and ends at 09:00:00, and the other half was produced during the next hour, that starts at 09:00:00 and ends at 10:00:00. So the quantity for the first hour now has a 0,5 pcs in the end, so the hour's total produced quantity will show this decimal. Also – the next hour has this decimal quantity in the beginning of it.

Example 2:

Shift A starts at 08:00:00 and ends at 14:00:00.

Shift B starts at 14:00:00 and ends at 20:00:00.

Product ABC is counted in pieces, 1 signal/circle = 1 pc.

The cycle time of the production is 1 pc/min.

A part of the signal, meaning a part of the one piece – let's say half – was produced in the end of shift A (starting the cycle at 13:59:30) and the other half was produced during the next shift – B (ending the cycle at 14:00:30). So the quantity for shift A now has a 0,5 pcs, so the shift's total produced quantity will show this decimal. Also – shift B has this decimal quantity in the beginning of it.
